Do All Debt Management Programs Offer The Same Interest Rates?
Debt Management Program Success
All debt management companies are not created equal. This is true in every sense. A debt management program will assist you with the following:
Negotiating your existing owed debts
Lowering or eliminating late fees or other penalties assessed by your lenders
Organize your monthly bills
Open an account for you to deposit a single monthly payment
Make payments on your behalf to those you owe money to
Act as your representative to the creditors you owe money to
While these actions combined can assist you in lowering your debt and bills, how they accomplish these actions and to what extent they help you depends largely on the company. Effective debt management program companies have the power and business experience to sway your creditors to lower your bills. There are others however who for whatever reason, cannot make the same headway. A good debt management program company, or credit counselor, will have several years of experience. They should take the time to evaluate all your bills and answer any questions you might have, without first charging you. Additionally they should make your payments on time for you to your creditors and have an effective system for notifying you of this each month.
The Cost Of A Good Debt Settlement Program
Just like with any service, the price you pay may not always coincide with the quality of service you will receive. Debt management companies charge on average $50-$100 for the initial start up of your DMP. Additionally there will be a monthly maintenance fee for managing your debt payments. This can range from $2-$5 per debt and should not exceed $50 for all your combined debts. There are companies that charge more for their services, and of course those who will even charge less. Make sure you find out as much as you can beforehand of what the total costs of your DMP will be, and how they will use this money to work to eliminate your debt.
