How To Find Debt Consolidation Counselor

The U.S. Trustee Program Website Provides A List of Debt Consolidation Counselors

A number of credit counseling agencies are listed on the U.S. Trustee Program website.  These counseling agencies are approved by the U.S. government to assist people going through bankruptcy.  The benefit to someone needing a debt consolidation counselor, though, is that you have an entire list of companies already approved by the government as counseling agents.  Many of them, if not all, provide debt consolidation counseling.

Since the government has already approved these companies to provide counseling services, you should feel relatively safe using them to help with your debt consolidation.  Along with being a credit counselor, the person you contact from the credit counseling company may also be a debt consolidation counselor.

Do a search on the Internet for U.S. Trustee Program.  Usually the one you want is the first one that shows up on the results list.  Click on the one that says only U.S. Trustee.  Once that website comes up, select Credit Counseling & Debtor Education under the heading Bankruptcy Reform.  Under Credit Counseling for Consumers select Approved Credit Counseling Agencies.  Choose the state in which you live and you’ll find a selection of credit agencies that can assist.

Do A Search On The World Wide Web For A Debt Consolidation Counselor

The Internet will provide a multitude of debt consolidation companies that can help with your debt consolidation quest.  Do a search under find debt consolidation counselor, debt consolidation counselor or debt consolidation, and you’ll find plenty.  Before contacting any company, make sure the company has the Better Business Bureau (BBB) logo on its website and an industry accreditation logo.

The BBB has strict requirements that businesses must meet before being allowed to become BBB members.  Industry accreditations are similar in that counselors must complete specific training and pass certain requirements authorized by the accrediting organization before becoming certified by that organization.
