How To Get Debt Free?

Freedom From Debt

To achieve freedom from debt will mean some changes both in your spending habits and equally importantly, changes to your current debt load.  It is not easy, yet certainly not impossible.  Millions of Americans are facing overwhelming debt.  The U.S. government estimates that more than 40% of households across the country are spending more each month than they make.  Most of this debt is being accumulated in the form of revolving debt, usually credit card debt.  This type of debt carries interest rates that are at times astronomical, fees for late payment, underpayment, maintenance, usage, etc.  It is also being offered to customers at a staggering pace.  There are more than 1.5 billion credit card in use in the United States alone.

Changing How You Charge Credit

The first step to debt freedom is managing your credit card use.  You simply cannot pay off credit card bills if you are spending out of your means.  Making the monthly payment does not equal paying off your credit card.  You are simply maintaining the account, paying interest to a very grateful credit card company, and barely making any ground on your principal debt owed.  The change needs to come in less spending on your credit cards, better sooner than later.  Try setting a budget each month, and sticking too it.  Also use your ATM card for the convenience of credit card spending without the credit card debt.

Debt Solutions That Work

While charging less will help you stop the accumulation of new debt, you must make a more aggressive move against your old debt to get debt free.  A debt consolidation, also known as a credit card consolidation, can be the solution.  In a consolidation you combine your existing debt and pay it off at once with a debt loan.  Additionally you can attempt to settle or negotiate down your owed debts.  Working with a credit counselor can assist you with a strategy to tackle your debt problems and get you on the path to debt freedom.
