What Are Bill Consolidation Services?

Bill Consolidation Services Help Consolidate Debt

Once you sign on with bill consolidation services, you no longer have to communicate directly with your creditors.  The bill consolidation company communicates with your creditors for you.  They help you consolidate many payments for various bills with various interest rates into one monthly payment.  All interest charges to your accounts stop.  Instead, you will pay one monthly payment to the bill consolidation company, which includes an amount that will be applied toward your debt and an amount that is paid for services provided by the debt consolidation company.

Bill consolidation services obtain an amount from you that you believe you can afford to pay on a monthly basis.  They, then, negotiate with each of your creditors to ensure your one monthly payment will satisfy each of your creditors.  You pay one monthly payment to the bill consolidation services company, and they pay each of your creditors out of that amount.

Bill Consolidation Services Help Clean Up Your Credit

Typically, using bill consolidation helps clean up your credit, which results in a higher credit rating.  How does that occur?  When you hire a bill consolidation services company, all your accounts are closed.  Your many unsecured debts are considered paid off and a new debt is created that includes the sum of all your previous debt.

Information noting that your accounts are paid off and closed is sent to the three major credit reporting agencies – TransUnion, Equifax and Experian.  The three agencies note the consolidated accounts as paid and closed, and add the new bill you now owe to the bill consolidation company to your credit report.  One of the weights used to determine your credit rating is the number of credit accounts open and outstanding.  With the closed accounts, your credit rating will improve.
